A gun verses a hockey puck, which will win?
Oakland University in Michigan assumes the hockey puck will defeat the gun. They are handing out pucks to the staff and the students. The idea came from Auburn Hills police chief Mark Gordon, who suggested throwing whatever was available — even a hockey puck, at active shooters.
Oakland University’s American Association of University Professors President Thomas Discenna led an effort for the union to buy 2,500 hockey pucks at less than $1 apiece. The pucks were distributed in early November with 1,700 pucks going to students and 800 to faculty members. The pucks have a dual purpose: They are also part of a campaign to raise funds to install interior locks on classroom doors. Some doors are only lockable from the hallway. The pucks are imprinted with a number that people can enter on the university’s website to donate money toward the new locks.
Tom Discenna, who helped with this whole unusual idea said,
“It’s just the idea of having something, a reminder that you’re not powerless and you’re not helpless in the classroom.”
Here’s a thought; people might not feel helpless against a mass school shooter if they were defending themselves with a gun. But of course Oakland is a gun free zone, and the only person carrying the gun is the insane shooter.
“No person shall possess a pistol or any other firearm, dangerous weapon, weapon, explosive or incendiary device on the campus provided, however, that the occupants of single family residences in the Meadow Brook subdivision and non-student University residences may possess firearms as permitted by law,” Oakland’s Ordinances state.
Some students weren’t too happy with this idea either,
Third-year student Adam Kalajian said, “If there’s an armed person coming in, why would you chuck a puck at them?”
Student Jacob Gora, “If I was to give you a puck, and I had a gun, would I be able to take you out? Easily, yeah. I mean, a puck is not going to distract me or stop me from shooting someone.”
As always, leftists want to keep the good guys helpless and disarmed, then blame those same good guys when a criminal kills one of them.
