In November when Alabama citizens will be voting, there will be an Amendment on the ballot. Amendment 2, proposed by State Rep. Matt Fridy.
- Declare that the state’s policy is to recognize and support “the sanctity of unborn life and the rights of unborn children, including the right to life
- Ensure the protection of the rights of the unborn child in all manners and measures lawful and appropriate
- State that “nothing in this Constitution secures or protects a right to abortion or requires the funding of an abortion
When Matt Fridy proposed this, he said he was thinking of the future.
In Tennessee where the state Supreme Court ruled that a woman has a “right” to abortion under the state constitution. That ruling made it basically impossible for Tennessee lawmakers to pass even moderate abortion regulations, such as parental consent for minors or a ban on taxpayer-funded abortions. In 2014, Tennessee voters approved a ballot measure to amend their constitution to make it clear there is no right to abortion
Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, Advocates for Youth, URGE: Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity; and other pro-abortion groups created a PAC, Alabama for Healthy Families, to campaign against the amendment. So far, they have raised almost $800,000.
The pro-abortion groups are livid; enraged that the State wants to protect innocent babies and not murder them on demand.
Katie Glenn, state director of Planned Parenthood says, “Amendment 2 would pave the way to ban abortions without exception in the state of Alabama regardless of if someone’s a victim of rape or incest or if the mother’s life were in danger,”
Which of course is completely untrue. You know the left will spin anything to fit their agenda.
Parker Snider, policy relations manager for the Alabama Policy Institute,
“That is not a fair description of the amendment, Exceptions, such as when the life of the mother is threatened would be worked out in the state legislature as they create pro-life legislation.”
Pro-life people of Alabama, if you believe in protecting the rights and lives of unborn babies, you can do that by voting yes for Amendment 2 on Nov. 6.
